CITY ANNOUNCES YALE NEW HAVEN HOSPITAL’S REFUSAL TO COMPLY WITH DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT
(6/29/2007) HOSPITAL FAILING TO HOLD UP ITS PART OF THE DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT
NEW HAVEN- After months of meetings, written communication between the two parties and efforts on behalf of the City to move forward on the cancer center development agreement with Yale New Haven Hospital, the hospital has made little progress and is failing to comply with the agreement. A notice of dispute from the City was delivered to the Hospital this morning requesting arbitration and calling for immediate action on specific items of dispute along with required remedies.
The subject of dispute is:
a) YNHH’s apparent unwillingness to design and construct the “Lot E Project” (as defined in the Agreement) in accordance with the requirements set forth in the Agreement.
b) YNHH’s failure to make any serious progress with respect to the development of the “Park Street Project,” as defined in the Agreement.
c) YNHH’s failure to fulfill its obligation to hire one hundred residents of the City of New Haven for full-time positions with YNHH, commencing calendar year 2006 and continuing for a period of not less than five years.
“This institution has a pattern of behavior of not living up to its obligations,” said Mayor John DeStefano, Jr., “I am concerned with protecting the community’s intentions as many of the points the hospital fails to adhere to are requests made by residents who live in the neighborhood where is project is supposed to take place.”
Yale New Haven Hospital has been found guilty of a number of violations including failing to comply with free care policies that the hospital must adhere to.
